Jacques Chirac remet la Légion d'honneur au patron de l'Anti-Defamation League

Encore une information qui ne fait pas la Une des médias français, mais qui en dit pourtant long sur l'état de la prétendue «politique arabe» de la France.

Je ne doute pas que les Libanais et la Palestiniens auront apprécié le geste: ce lundi 16 octobre, Jacques Chirac a remis les insignes de Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur à Abraham Foxman, patron de l'Anti-Defamation League (pour les anglophones, le site de l'association est évidemment fier de vous faire part de la sauterie à l'Élysée). Jacques Chirac a annoncé sans rire:

Tout au long de votre vie, vous avez visé trois objectifs indissociables: le devoir de mémoire, le combat contre l'antisémitisme et le dialogue pour la paix.

Si vous ne connaissez pas l'ADL, je ne vais pas vous faire un gros topo ici. Une large documentation est disponible sur l'internet. Pour résumer: l'Anti-Defamation League est l'une des principaux organes d'indimidation, de diffamation, de manipulation et de désinformation pro-israëlienne de la planète. C'est l'une des pires officines de manipulation aux États-Unis en faveur l'Israël.

Dans Necessary Illusions, Noam Chomsky écrivait en 1989:

The leading official monitor of anti-Semitism, the Anti-Defamation League of B'nai Brith, interprets anti-Semitism as unwillingness to conform to its requirements with regard to support for Israeli authorities. These conceptions were clearly expounded by ADL National Director Nathan Perlmutter, who wrote that while old-fashioned anti-Semitism has declined, there is a new and more dangerous variety on the part of “peacemakers of Vietnam vintage, transmuters of swords into plowshares, championing the terrorist P.L.O.," and those who condemn U.S. policies in Vietnam and Central America while “sniping at American defense budgets.” He fears that “nowadays war is getting a bad name and peace too favorable a press” with the rise of this “real anti-Semitism.” The logic is straightforward: Anti-Semitism is opposition to the interests of Israel (as the ADL sees them); and these interests are threatened by “the liberals,” the churches, and others who do not adhere to the ADL political line.

The ADL has virtually abandoned its earlier role as a civil rights organization, becoming “one of the main pillars” of Israeli propaganda in the U.S., as the Israeli press casually describes it, engaged in surveillance, blacklisting, compilation of FBI-style files circulated to adherents for the purpose of defamation, angry public responses to criticism of Israeli actions, and so on. These efforts, buttressed by insinuations of anti-Semitism or direct accusations, are intended to deflect or undermine opposition to Israeli policies, including Israel's refusal, with U.S. support, to move towards a general political settlement. The ADL was condemned by the Middle East Studies Association after circulation of an ADL blacklist to campus Jewish leaders, stamped “confidential.” Practices of this nature have been bitterly condemned by Israeli doves -- in part because they fear the consequences of this hysterical chauvinism for Israel, in part because they have been subjected to the standard procedures themselves, in part simply in natural revulsion.

Pendant l'agression israélienne contre le Liban, l'Anti-Defamation League avait, par exemple, dénoncé le «parti pris» de Human Rights Watch lorsque celle-ci avait osé qualifier le bombardement de Qana de «crime de guerre». L'article, signé par Abraham Foxman lui-même, exposait une admirable conception du «dialogue pour la paix»:

Israel had to make clear to the Arabs that they would be hurt far, far more than the pain they could inflict. In other words, without Israel hitting back (not in an “eye for an eye a tooth for a tooth” fashion which Mr. Roth cited and is a classic anti-Semitic stereotype about Jews) but in a much stronger way, Israel would have been destroyed long ago.

Récemment, une partie de son activité s'est orientée vers l'intimidation des ambassades étrangères aux États-Unis. On lui doit les pressions qui ont provoqué l'annulation, la semaine dernière, d'une intervention de Tony Judt à l'ambassade de Pologne. Intimidation qui a précédé l'annulation, que j'ai évoquée ici, de la présentation d'un livre de Carmen Callil par les services de l'ambassade de France à New York (sans doute rien à voir avec l'affaire «polonaise», n'est-ce pas, seulement un hasard du calendrier consulaire).

Bravo Jacques: «le dialogue pour la paix» au sujet de l'ADL, c'est du pure jargon orwellien.
